Brown County Community Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education met April 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on Wednesday evening, April 22, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom video conference. The meeting was called to order by Blaesing. The minutes were recorded by McKenzie Taute.

On roll call: Blaesing, yea; Blakeley, yea; Fullerton, yea; Heinecke, absent; Hughes, yea; Krupps, absent; McCaskill, absent.

In attendance: Vicki Phillips, Tracy Conley, Kris Gallaher, Shelly Sheffler, Pollee Craven, Dave Phelps, Karen Jirjis, Jacque Reynolds, James McKay.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Hughes, to approve the Consent Agenda.

Roll call: McCaskill, absent; Krupps, absent; Blaesing, yea; Hughes, yea; Blakeley, yea; Heinecke, absent; Fullerton, yea.

Motion carried.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the Financial Report.

Roll call: Fullerton, yea; Blakeley, yea; McCaskill, absent; Blaesing, yea; Hughes, yea; Krupps, absent; Heinecke, absent.

Correspondence: Mrs. Phillips informed the Board that the district was awarded the SMPG grant in the amount of $50,000. The SMPG grant will be used for summer renovation projects.

Committee Reports: Jacques Reynolds from Architechnics spoke in regards to the four main projects that are slated to take place this spring/summer.

1. Abatement of asbestos throughout the elementary school and high school biology lab 2. New flooring throughout the elementary school

3. Removal and replacement of the insulation and the addition of new ventilation in the elementary school gym

4. Renovation of the current science lab to convert the space to a functional biology lab

Motion by Hughes, seconded by Blaesing, to approve the renewal of IHSA membership for the 2020- 2021 school term.

Motion carried.

The board discussed what the best option was for crediting or refunding students for spring sports fees. It was decided that seniors will be receiving a refund and all other grades will have a credit issued towards the next school years sports fees.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the credit/refunding of spring sports fees.

Roll call: McCaskill, absent; Heinecke, absent; Fullerton, yea; Blakeley, yea; Blaesing, yea; Krupps; asbent; Hughes, yea.

Motion carried.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Fullerton, to approve the renewal of the Western Area Purchasing contract.

Roll call: Fullerton, yea; Blaesing, yea; McCaskill, absent; Blakeley, yea; Heinecke, absent; Hughes, yea; Krupps, absent.

Motion carried.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Hughes, to approve the abatement of the Working Cash Fund to the Tort Immunity and Judgement Fund in the amount of $1,500,000.

Roll call: Heinecke, absent; Blakeley, yea; Hughes, yea; Fullerton, yea; Krupps, absent, McCaskill, absent; Blaesing, yea.

Motion carried.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Hughes, to approve the abatement of the Working Cash Fund to the Education Fund in the amount of $1,000,000.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, for the approval of the second reading of Press Plus Issue 102 which includes the following policy sections:

4:80 Accounting and Audits

4:150 Facility Management and Building Programs
