Brown County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met May 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The special meeting of the Board of Education was held beginning at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom video conference. The meeting was called to order by Blakeley. The minutes were recorded by McKenzie Taute.

On roll call: Krupps, absent; McCaskill, unresponsive; Blaesing, yea; Fullerton, yea; Hughes, yea; Blakeley, yea; Heinecke, absent.

In attendance via Zoom: Vicki Phillips, Tracy Conley, Kris Gallaher, Shelly Sheffler, Pollee Craven, Karen Jirjis, Jacques Reynolds, James McKay, Dan Long.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the Consent Agenda consisting of the minutes from the previous board meeting minutes.

Correspondence: Mrs. Phillips informed the Board that the district has met the requirements for its annual IDEA determination.

The Board discussed bid options for asbestos abatement and mold remediation at both the elementary school and a partial abatement at the high school. A bid from Triple A’s in the amount of $150,000.00 was accepted for the asbestos/mold project upon their apparent low bid.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Hughes, to accept Triple A’s bid for asbestos abatement and mold remediation at Brown County Elementary School and High School.

The Board discussed bid options for new flooring and flooring replacement at the elementary school. A decision was made to move forward with vinyl composition tile (VCT) due to cost savings and proven longevity of the tile. A bid from Continental Flooring Company in the amount of $101,868.00 was accepted for the VCT flooring project based upon their apparent low bid.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Fullerton, to accept the bid from Continental Flooring Company in the amount of $101,868.00 for new flooring and flooring replacement at Brown County Elementary School.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Hughes, to approve the renewal of the IESA membership for the 2020- 2021 school term.

Motion by Hughes, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the purchase of 3-year Cloud Backup and Governance subscriptions and implementation services from AvePoint in the amount of $29,565.13 ($17,234.95 using CARES Act funds for Year 1, Years 2-3 to be invoiced at that time).

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the purchase of Microsoft 365 A3 subscription and InTune implementation services from iT1 Source in the amount of $20,625 using CARES Act funds.

Motion by Hughes, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the purchase of Safety Management subscription from Gaggle in the amount of $6,600 for 2020-2021 using CARES Act funds.

Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Blaesing, for the approval of the 2020-2021 lease-purchase agreement with American Capital in the amount of $35,816 for laptop computers (lease term is four months, four monthly payments, first payment will be due in November, monthly payment is $9,360.55, total repayment amount is $37,442.20, Ed fund will be used for repayment).

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the purchase of SMART display panels from Tierney Bros. in the amount of $54,982 using Tracy Family Foundation grant funds.

Motion by Blaesing, seconded by Hughes, to approve the renewal of Mastery Connect subscription from Instructure in the amount of $7,600 for 2020-2021.

Reports: Mrs. Phillips reported that the district received approval from the health department and law enforcement to hold a modified graduation. The district is looking forward to being able to honor our high school graduates.
