Macomb FD responds to 54 fires in 2018

Macomb Fire District responded to 325 calls in 2018 - 1.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Macomb included 54 fires - 29 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 20 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $231,300 in fire loss - or about $4,283 per fire.

The department also received 265 false calls, including eight malicious calls and 257 other false calls.

The Macomb Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 20 active employees and 31 retired or inactive employees, was $271,574 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,720 for every fire in 2017.
