McDonough District Hospital is the first location in Illinois to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Ben Thompson, Health Department emergency response coordinator, told the McDonough County Voice that emergency health care workers at the hospital will be the first to receive vaccinations.

"It's been a very fast process," Thompson said. "With lots of changes and adjustments."

Thompson said hospital workers will be receiving vaccinations this week and into next week.

"IDPH will tell us when to move on to the next part, which is vaccinations at individual doctor's offices," Thompson told the McDonough County Voice.

Inoculations are expected to take two weeks, Thompson stated. Afterward, he said pharmacies and drugstores, such as CVS Pharmacy and Walgreen's, will be administering the vaccines at nursing homes.
