Donatecash

Memorial Hospital - Carthage IL issued the following announcement on Jan. 2.

Memorial Hospital Foundation received a significant donation in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle and Virginia Scheetz. This donation also honors three of the Scheetz granddaughters: Shelly Hunter, Nancy Huls and Krista Carle, all of whom are part of the Memorial Hospital and clinic team. This generous donation of $10,000 was made by Mr. and Mrs. Scheetz’s daughter and son in law, Linda and Tony Takai of Kailua - Kona, Hawaii. This gift was given to celebrate a life well-lived. Mr. Scheetz passed away on February 1, 2006, at the age of 86. This generous donation also seeks to honor the entire Scheetz family’s ongoing legacy, as they continue to serve their community in numerous ways.

On December 19, 2020, Mr. Lyle Scheetz would have turned 100 years old. Lyle was known not only for faithfully serving his community, but also for serving his country. On June 4, 1942, Lyle joined the Second Marine Division. During his time in the Marine Corps, he received numerous awards, multiple star recognitions, and a Purple Heart Medal in October 27, 1944. Virginia and Lyle were married in 1945 and raised their four children, Ronnie, Linda, Jim, and Randy in Hancock County. Lyle and Virginia paved the way for the family farm, which still continues today.

Lyle and Virginia offered much to their family and community and their values and passion live on through their children and grandchildren including their granddaughters, Shelly Hunter, Director of Inpatient Services, Nancy Huls, Director of Integrity and Medical Staff Services, and Krista Carle, DNP, APRN-FNP (Doctorate of Nurse Practice) at Memorial Hospital and clinics.

Greta Wetzel, Memorial Hospital Foundation Executive Director, states, “Shelly, Nancy, and Krista have built their careers and their accomplishments in the same fashion as their grandparents, carrying forward generations of loyalty to their family and communities. This $10,000 donation will be used to benefit the clinical areas in which these talented ladies work. A Vapotherm high flow oxygen device and a Micro Needling tool will be purchased with the donated funds. This equipment is sure to benefit the health of the community that these talented professionals serve.”

As the Scheetz family takes this time to remember and honor their father and grandfather on what would have been his 100th birthday, they ponder the words that he wrote in his memoir as Lyle reflected on his days as a Marine, “I hope to live until I’m at least 100 years old. I want to see what my grandchildren are doing.”

Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospital Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Takai family for this generous gift that perfectly reflects the mission of Memorial Hospital Foundation, ““To enhance the health and wellness of our communities through charitable giving.”
