Beardstown Community Unified School District 15 Board Met Dec. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

The Board of Education Community Unit No. 15, Beardstown, IL was called to order by President Mike Seaman at 7:00 p.m. in Beardstown Middle/High library 500 East 15th Street, Beardstown, IL. Pledge of allegiance. Barbara Hobrock called the roll with the following members present: Jimmy Hymes, Barbara Hobrock, Joe Engelbrecht, Wells Petersen, Kim Watson, and Mike Seaman. OJ Simpson was absent. Also in attendance were Ron Gilbert and Kelly Herter.

PUBLIC QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS: Brian DeLoche-Gift from JBS. He asked about the original gift from JBS. He asked about returning a donation. When did the board decide to return the money? If the board didn’t return the money who did? Reasonable questions and reasonable answers.

Mike Seaman-Wished everyone a Merry Christmas and reminded all candidates all paperwork is due to be turned in Monday.

ADMINISTRATORS REPORT:

Bill Myers-Dot food has been fantastic with giving food for distribution to the community. Worried about two weeks during break. There will be a large food donation for December 22nd, with over 1000 cases of food to be distributed. He has been in contact with T-Mobile about different hot spots. Request from a father that has twins that have special needs that live in at Washington Place in the district, several athletes and Coach Howard did a drive by to celebrate their birthday.David Scott-Contact logs every day. Lori Young-Mr. Thies had several zoom meetings dressed as Santa Claus for the students.

Robbi Howard-IHSA will meet with representatives to get a plan together.

Wendy McClenning-We received the new chromebooks earlier this week. She hopes to have them ready to go when we return from Christmas Break.

Ron Gilbert-Gave an update on Covid Phase two pilot for rapid testing. Test those that are symptomatic so more employees will be able to continue to work without having to get quarantine. Our staff will be eligible to receive the vaccine after first responders. Trying to keep everyone safe. No state of Illinois mandate. It is a volunteer option. We all need positive things right now. 85% of students in the district plan to go to college.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:

JBS Donation-$115,000.00 for scoreboard, message board, 3 community signs, and a contribution to Tiger Pantry. $70,000 for new digital display at the football field, $17,000 for new message board in front of building. Asking for their name to be put on the scoreboard. The digital sign on the front of the building will state provided by JBS. The community signs will be placed throughout the building. $10,000.00 will be used for Tiger Closet. Contract will need to be signed. ACTION ITEMS.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to approve consent agenda 1, 2, 3, and 4. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hobrock, second by Engelbrecht to set graduation date for Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a backup plan closer to the May 30th date. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to approve adding/posting a floating custodian position. Roll call vote Hymes- yes; Hobrock-no; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to approve the donation of $115,000.00 from JBS. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Hobrock to approve the 1st reading of board policy updates 106. Roll call vote Hymes- yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes , second by Petersen to enter closed session to discuss litigation, land acquisition, negotiations, student disciplinary cases, and to consider information regarding the appointment, employment, or dismissal of an employee or officer. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes. Time 7:28p.m.

On a motion by Hymes, second Hobrock to re enter open session. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht- yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes. Time 8:02p.m.

PERSONNEL

On a motion by Hymes, second by Hobrock to approve 2021-2022 a 1 year contract extension for Tammee Petersen as the District Language Acquisition Administrator. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-abstain; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to employ Michael Smith as the District Superintendent beginning July 1, 2021. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to hire Maggie Smith as HS AG teacher. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock- yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to hire Michael Benanti elementary teacher. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Engelbrecht to approve the following maternity leaves: Emily Vermillion tentative dates January 25th-March 8th 2021. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

On a motion by Hymes, second by Petersen to approve Rebekah Bush tentative dates January 26th-March 9th. Roll call vote Hymes-yes; Hobrock-yes; Engelbrecht-yes; Watson-yes; Petersen-yes; Seaman-yes.

DISCUSSION-Mike Seaman-No action to accept the 400,000 donation. So no action from the board. On the advice of our attorney because the property that was described in the contract was not the districts.
