Representatives from Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC), the LLCC Foundation and the Kreher Farm Charitable Perpetual Trust held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Kreher Agriculture Center May 7.
Funded through an $18 million gift from the late Charles and Irene Kreher through the Kreher Trust, the 19,750-square-foot, $7.5 million building aims to promote and support the growth of community college's agricultural program,
Sen. Steve McClure (R-Jacksonville) attended the grand open, calling the building "incredible."
"Yesterday, I attended the opening of the Kreher Agriculture Center at Lincoln Land Community College," McClure posted to Facebook May 7. "The building is incredible, and I enjoyed visiting with LLCC President Charlotte Warren, students, faculty, and staff. I continue to be impressed by everything that is happening at LLCC."
The donation will also allow the community college to expand the agriculture curriculum and offer scholarship opportunities to agriculture students.
Visitors at the state-of-art center can learn how to operate drones, a John Deere combine and a RoGator sprayer and use virtual simulations to try out arc and MIG (metal inert gas) welding, according to FarmWeekNow.com.
Lincoln Land’s president said that he hoped the new center would inspire new students from nonfarm backgrounds to seek careers in agriculture.
