City of Barry City Council met Aug. 1

City of Barry City Council met Aug. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Rennecker called the monthly meeting of the Barry City Council to order at 7 p.m. He then led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. All elected officials were present except: Justin Puterbaugh, Marynel Corton and Debbie Dell.

Bridget Cramsey made a motion to approve the minutes from the July meeting and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Motion carried with 4 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent. Steve Schultz made a motion for payment of bills and Bob Dieker seconded the motion. Motion carried with 4 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent.

Officer Herron from the Pike County Sheriff’s department gave the police report. He stated it had been a busy month with 78 reports and 5 arrests which included 1 felony, 3 misdemeanor and 1 traffic arrests.

Allison Woods, Barry Apple Festival 2021 Junior Miss spoke to the Council and said it has been an honor to represent Barry and to thank the City for everything they have done to help with the festival. She then presented everyone present with a small loaf of apple coffee cake.

Robert Snyder gave the Public Works Director Report. He said they have been coming in early because of the heat and the downspout at the Library has been put up. The basketball ball goals have been put in at the Barry Pool Park and new lighting will be installed. They have read water meters, mowed and have done some patching. They have started work on the sand volleyball court up by the YMCA and hopefully it will be ready to use next year.

Jeff Hogge gave the City Administrators report. He met with Ryan from Right Rate Roofing about the museum roof. A contract has been signed and Ryan is hoping to start in a few weeks but found out one of the compounds for the roofing material is on backorder. He will keep us informed as to when it is available. Cindy Galinis is interested in have a second Interior TIF grant for HVAC in Tiny’s Place. She has gotten a bid for equipment and material at a cost of $8331. The Country View Veterinary Clinic has finished their floor for their Interior TIF grant. The grant was for $11,159 but the final bill was only $6995 which saved the City money. Jeff said the floor really looks good. He has been working with Doors and More to get bids on doors for the pool and the museum. New globes have been ordered for Lafayette Park to replace one that was busted and others that were getting cloudy. New dehumidifier has been purchased for the pump house and a new chemical pump purchased for the well house. The chemical pump is on backorder.

Mayor Rennecker discussed the audit engagement letter with ABNG accountants; it is not to exceed $11,900. Bob Dieker made a motion to approve the engagement letter and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Steve Schultz – yes

Marynel Corton – absent

Justin Puterbaugh – absent

Bridget Cramsey – yes

Motion carried with 4 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent to approve the engagement letter. City Engineer Max Middendorf introduced Caleb Haynes, who also works with MECO engineering and will be assisting with City issues. Max Middendorf asked that the payment request for MFT Chip and Seal work be tabled until modified. Council discussed the getting another pump for the lift station. Bob Dieker and Steve Schultz both think we should order another pump for the lift station. Max Middendorf recommended getting one and put on shelf for when we need it. Steve Schultz said get price and we will vote on at next meeting.

Council discussed HVAC system for Tiny’s Place (Cindy Galinis) at a cost of $8331 for HVAC and equipment from the TIF Interior grant. Bob Dieker made a motion to approve and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 4 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent to approve the request. Mayor Rennecker said Cindy Galinis wanted to know if she can do the same as she did last year for Apple Festival with a fenced off area behind Tiny’s Place. Council is ok with that.

Bridget Cramsey made a motion to adjourn and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
