Principals Report:

Calhoun High School Principal Cheri Burris Report

Introduction of new staff, Nick Wyatt and Ben Bayless.

This Summer I tried doing a paperless survey for CHS graduates in order to get feedback about how we are doing in preparing them for the future. I hoped that this method would provide more responses. I posted the information on our Facebook page.

Unfortunately, I did not receive any requests to take the survey.

The cafeteria now has the new flooring completed and it looks great, especially the stairs by the band room. Administration and a few parents cleaned and painted the Football concession on Wed. Aug. 3rd. It looks so much better.

Name plates and room letters have been added to the high school to help students find their way. A new wifi antenna has been ordered for the marquee. Hopefully it will work after the antenna is replaced. CJD E-cycling came to CHS yesterday to pick up all of our tech junk and metal junk. Freshman Orientation was Aug. 15th at 6pm.

The CHS Gym floor is getting professionally cleaned/waxed on Aug. 22nd and will be unavailable for use until Aug. 29th.

Several home varsity football games have been changed to Thursday nights due to the official shortage.

Calhoun Elementary School Principal Christie Lorsbach Report

Summer School Power Hours were hosted in 5 classrooms for the last two weeks.

Students were excited to be back. The teachers who hosted classrooms were: Mrs. Becker: Kindergarten, Ms. Schutz: 1st and 2nd grade, Mrs. Brunaugh: 3rd grade, Mrs. Hickson: 4th grade to 7th grade.

The JH Softball team is off to a strong start to the season. They placed first in the Gillespie Tournament on August 6th and continue to steamroll their competitors.

The JH Baseball team kicked off their season last Wednesday night at home against Southwestern. New employee orientation was held on Thursday, August 11th.

A new curriculum change for the upcoming year is the removal of spelling tests. The K-5 team will focus instruction on phonics, decoding, and spelling patterns, but not on the memorization of the spelling word. Instead, the focus will be on using words in context to enhance reading and written expression skills. Mr. Derham, JH Social Studies teacher, and I will be working together to develop and offer Student Council at the JH level. He is very excited about the opportunity to oversee this opportunity for the students. The parking lot turned out great, big thanks to Kyle Godar and his crew for all their efforts. There were several “hiccups” with the lot repair, but it turned out wonderful.

HUGE thanks to Hannah Nelson for her time and effort in meeting with JCH to secure funds for the new gym mats and start the search for a new scoreboard. This will be a huge improvement for the gym. Thanks Hannah!! Headstart is no longer located within the CES building or in the county. This has displaced some students without a Pre-K program. We do currently have a waitlist for Pre-K.

The Missouri Flooring Company has been in the gym this past week to conduct the yearly required maintenance.

The custodial staff has been working hard to get the building ready for the return of teachers and students. Please feel free to stop in and take a look, everything looks wonderful. Kudos to all of the hard work they put in, every day.
