WIU tennis announces schedule

A jam-packed winter and spring lay ahead for the Western Illinois women's tennis program as coach Shawn Hyden unveiled the winter and spring portion of the schedule. The Leathernecks play 20 matches, including seven in-conference duals in the Summit League.

Western Illinois opens the season on the road, taking on IUPUI on January 27. The Leathernecks play their first eight away from Macomb, visiting Western Kentucky (Jan. 29), Southern Indiana (Feb. 3), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (Feb. 4), Dayton (Feb. 11), Ashland (Feb. 12), Northern Illinois (Feb. 18) and Illinois State (Feb. 24). The Leathernecks are finally at home on March 4, taking on Bradley March 4.

Western Illinois returns to the road, visiting Saint Louis (March 10), Lindenwood (March 11) and Northeastern State (March 16) before opening Summit League match play at Oral Roberts (March 18). Western Illinois ends the non-conference portion less than a week later, playing at Quincy (March 21).

The Leathernecks next play a league match at home, hosting Denver (March 25) before heading back on the road to face South Dakota (March 29) and North Dakota (March 31).  Western Illinois closes out the regular season with three home matches, hosting Omaha (April 7), Kansas City (April 14) and St. Thomas (April 16).

"I'm excited for the season," Hyden said. "We played well in the fall and there was a lot of growth during our practices, the sky's the limit for this group!"

The Summit League Championships are April 21-22 and hosted by Oral Roberts.
