McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met Oct. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Letha Clark, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Members Eric Chapman, and Travis Hiel were absent. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Chief Deputy Adam Cremer, Jerry Cremer, Marilyn Shelley, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve September 11, 2023 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Clark to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Report received and filed.

Tri-County Recycling

Report received and filed.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Six Veterans were given assistance in September. Total assistance amounted to $880.66.

Sheriff’s Report

Chief Deputy Adam Cremer gave the report.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report.

CO2 Pipeline Update

Chair Erlandson gave an update, and informed the Committee that there is a hearing set for October 23rd.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Clark to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Other

RWE has adjusted their agreements with homeowners and have had more agreements signed for the wind farm.

Executive Session

None

Public Comment

Jerry Cremer spoke in favor of the wind farm. Marilyn Shelley announced that the CO2 case in Iowa with Navigator has been moved to February 24, 2024.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer thanked Member Clark for giving Macomb School District’s 6th grade students a tour of the Courthouse.

Adjourn

Member Blakeley moved with a second by Member Clark to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
