City of Jacksonville Commission on Disabilities & Human Relations met Oct. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Present: Peggy Davidsmeyer (Chair), David Bauer (Vice Chair), Eddie Lowe, Guy Crumley, Brandie Belford, Sarah Robinson (Secretary), Mary Watts

Absent: Brandie Belford, Ruth Linear, Dan Thompson,

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER 4:15 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion: To approve the minutes of 8/3/23 meeting

OLD BUSINESS

• Committee Assignments

o Health & Human Services – Peggy Davidsmeyer, Eddie Lowe

o Business, Recreation, Government – Mary Watts, David Bauer, Ruth Linear

o Physical Accessibility & Transportation – Guy Crumley, Dan Thompson

o Housing, Education, & Employment – Sarah Robinson, Brandie Belford

NEW BUSINESS

• JACIL has a virtual intern from Lone Star University in Houston, Texas

o Mark Pierce is working with the Aktion Club to survey sidewalks in Jacksonville for accessibility.

o The results of his project will be presented at the KIP Café in November and a final report will be shared with the Commission on Disabilities and Human Relations in December.

• JACIL has distributed the Commission’s brochures at various events.

• Festival of Lights Display

o Discussion about creating a verbal description of each station was held.

o Discussion about possibility of having a WCMTD bus take individuals through the display and then possibly return to JACIL for a snack (hot cocoa?).

o These ideas will be discussed further.
