City of Hamilton City Council met March 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1.    ROLL CALL

The Hamilton City Council met in regular session 7:00pm at the Hamilton City Hall. Attending were Mayor Bocephus Casey, Aldermen Tommy Buckert, Justin Hobby, Brandon Wilson, Beverly Boone, Steve Schlatter and Debbie Summers, Clerk Michelle Dorethy, and Police Chief Mike Boley.

2.    PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 Mayor Casey led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

3.    MINUTES OF MARCH 4, 2024

Wilson made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 4th meeting. Buckert seconded the motion. Roll was called with Buckert, Hobby, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter and Summers voting aye. 

Motion carried.

4.    WELCOME VISITORS

Mayor Casey welcomed Don Gee, Vice President of Hancock County Historical Society.  Don informed the Council that January 13th, 2025 will be Hancock County’s 200th Birthday.  The Historical Society will be planning celebration events throughout 2025.  He asked the City to be thinking of an event they could do in Hamilton in conjunction with the celebration.

5.     FINANCE & APPROPRIATIONS

Summers reported the Finance Committee will hold budget meetings on Monday, April 22nd and Tuesday, April 23rd both starting at 5:00pm.

a.    Committee Report

Summers gave a report on the Finance Committee meeting that was held on March 5th

b.    Treasurer Report

Summers made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Hobby, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, and Buckert voting aye.

Motion carried.

6.    HEALTH & SAFETY

a.    Committee Report

Wilson gave a report on the Health and Safety Committee meeting held on March 12th

b.    Approve Payment for AED’s This Fiscal Year

Wilson made a motion to approve paying for the five AED’s for the Police Department out of this fiscal year instead of waiting until next year due to the delay in purchasing the equipment for the new vehicle. Roll was called with Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Hobby, and Buckert voting aye.

Motion carried.

7.    BUILDING & GROUNDS, PERMITS & ZONING:

Boone reported that the Building and Grounds Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, March 25th at 5:30pm. 

a.    Building/Demolition Permits

Boone made a motion to approve the following building permits:

1.    20’L x 18’W x8’H Roof Canopy to Pete Jones at 115 Pleasantview Drive

2.    50’L x 36”W Concrete Sidewalks (2) to Brent Whiting at 1160 Oak Street

Hobby seconded the motion. Roll was called with Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Hobby, Buckert, and Wilson voting aye.

Motion carried.

Boone made a motion to approve the following building permit:

3.    80’L x 40’W x 14’H Building Extension to Wade Plowman at 1 Dania Drive

Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Hobby, Buckert, Boone, and Wilson voting aye.

Motion carried.

Boone made a motion to approve the following building permit:

4.    30’L x 30”W Concrete Sidewalk and 9’ Pad to Tom Boone at 1760 Laurel

Wilson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Hobby, Buckert, and Wilson voting aye. Boone abstained.

Motion carried.

8.    PUBLIC WORKS 

Schlatter had nothing new to report at this time.

9.     ECONOMIC & TOURISM

Buckert had nothing new to report at this time. 

10.    ADJOURNMENT

Hobby made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:39pm. Summers seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Hobby, Buckert, Boone, and Wilson voting aye.
