City of Barry City Council met May 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Attendance: Shawn Rennecker, Tyler Patterson, Bridget Cramsey, Scott Harris, Marynel Corton, Jeff Hogge, Serena Hochgraber, Jeremy Walston, Max Middendorf

Shawn opened the meeting at 5:00 PM and shared an update on the events of the week regarding the pool filter house. A leak in the surge tank was discovered by Jeremy that needed repair. A line stop will be required to keep from draining the pool, and we have water running out of electrical conduit in the filter house. The likely cause is groundwater coming into the electrical conduit.

There was a lot of discussion during the week by Shawn, Jeremy, and Max on options to repair. Either we delay the opening and make repairs, or we do not open for the season.

After a 40 minute discussion of options and conditions, those in attendance motioned and approved (1-BC, 2-SH) to move forward with the following plan:

1) Contract IRWA to schedule a line stop for $5,500 to keep the water in the pool so we can change a tank valve needed to keep water from flowing back into the surge tank.

2) Contact a local fabricator (estimated cost $4,200) to fabricate and weld a new bottom and corners for the surge tank.

3) Hire an electrical contractor to quickly run a new service from the pool house to the filter pad to eliminate the issue. Max will pursue options for us here.

4) To not lose our pool staff, we will offer them hours doing painting and other light duty work until the pool is ready.

The meeting ended at 6:05 PM
