City of Hamilton City Council met Aug. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1.    ROLL CALL

The Hamilton City Council met in regular session 7:00pm at the Hamilton City Hall. Attending were Mayor Bocephus Casey, Aldermen Tommy Buckert, Andrew Asbury, Brandon Wilson, Beverly Boone, Steve Schlatter and Debbie Summers, Clerk Michelle Dorethy, Public Works Director Aron Metternich, and Police Chief Mike Boley.

2.    PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 Mayor Casey led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

3.    MINUTES OF JULY 15, 2024

Wilson made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 1st meeting. Summers seconded the motion. Roll was called with Asbury, Buckert, Wilson, Schlatter and Summers voting aye. 

Motion carried. Boone abstained.

4.    MAYOR’S COMMENTS

Mayor Casey reported that he had received a letter reporting that Memorial Hospital is going to receive a grant to start on the first phase of their project at their building on Keokuk Street.

Mayor Casey asked for a motion to approve the Mayor and Police Chief Choice Awards of $100.00 each for the car show coming up Labor Day weekend.  Buckert made a motion to approve.  Wilson seconded the motion.  Roll was called with Buckert, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers and Asbury voting aye.

Motion carried.

5.    WELCOME VISITORS

Mayor Casey welcomed visitors.  Tim Etter, retired employee from Frontier spoke with the Council regarding the frontier powerlines in town that is needing attention.  He will pass along the list he has compiled to Aron Metternich, Public Works Director. 

6.     FINANCE & APPROPRIATIONS

a.    Selected Check Registers

Summers made a motion to approve the Selected Check Registers.  Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Asbury, and Buckert voting aye.

Motion carried.

7.    HEALTH & SAFETY

Asbury reported that the Health and Safety Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, August 22nd at 5:30 p.m.

a.    Committee Report

Asbury gave a report on the Health & Safety Committee meeting that was held on August 1st.

8.    BUILDING & GROUNDS, PERMITS & ZONING:

Buckert gave a report on the Building & Grounds Committee meeting that was held on July 24th to open Police Department bids. 

Buckert reported that the Building & Grounds Committee will hold a meeting on August 8th at 6:00 pm. to review and discuss the Police Department bids.

a.    Ordinance #6 Amending Zoning 

Buckert made a motion to approve all three readings of Ordinance #6 Amending the Zoning from A-1 to B-1 to allow for a Solar Farm.  Boone seconded the motion. Roll was called with Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Asbury, Buckert and Wilson voting aye.

 Motion carried.

b.    Building/Demolition Permits

Buckert read the following building permits.  Wilson made a motion to approve the permits:

80’ Wood privacy fence to James Money at 1451 Laurel

Roof top solar panels to Ray & Doris Taylor at 120 North 18th

Roof top solar panels to Brenda Waite at 314 Plaza Drive

Roof top solar panels to Ruth Ferdig at 1327 Casley Drive

75’ Wood privacy fence to Mark & Peggy Whitford at 79 North 5th

28’L x 20’W Cement pad to Tim Massey at 1975 High Street

30’L x 12’W x 12’H Wood 2 layer Deck to Scott Briggs at 220 S 15th

Enclose existing porch to Jeff & Rhonda Noble at 451 South 8th

Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Asbury, Buckert, Wilson and Boone voting aye.

 Motion carried.

9.    PUBLIC WORKS 

Schlatter reported the Public Works Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 14 at 5:30 pm.

a.    Intergovernmental Agreement with Hamilton School District

Schlatter made a motion to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton School District for portion of the 1830 Broadway real estate for public improvement.  Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Summers, Asbury, Buckert, Wilson, Boone and Schlatter voting aye.

 Motion carried.

10.     ECONOMIC & TOURISM

Wilson reported that the Economic and Tourism Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm.

11.    ADJOURNMENT

Buckert made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:40pm. Wilson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Asbury, Buckert, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter and Summers voting aye.
