Western Illinois competes at Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational

The Western Illinois University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, after a three-week break from competition.

The women's team finished 17th out of 23 teams on the 5K course. Madison Trevena led the Leathernecks, finishing 35th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 02.06 seconds. Kinze Kirkland-Shea followed, placing 67th overall and scoring 66 points with a time of 18:26.8. Maleigha Huston was next for the team, securing the 88th position overall and scoring 87 points with a time of 18:41.9. Lydia Bennett and Ava Gorrie completed the team's race with times of 19:10.9 and 19:20.4 respectively.

In the men's race, Western Illinois did not field a complete team to score collectively. Logan Lommel led their efforts by finishing in 27th place overall with a time of 24:44.6, having moved up from his initial position at the start of the race. Logan Beckmier also had a strong performance, finishing in 32nd place with a time of 24:49.9 after climbing up from his early race positions.

Eason Comer and Richard Brown were other notable participants for Western Illinois in the men's category, completing their races with times of 27:52.9 and 28:36.5 respectively.

The Leathernecks will next compete at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, October 18.
