WIU volleyball narrowly defeated by Tennessee Tech in intense five-set match

WIU volleyball faced a narrow defeat against Tennessee Tech in a five-set match in Cookville, TN. The Leathernecks showed significant improvement from their previous performance, recording 58 team kills. Keyana Cruse led with 21 kills, while Brittany Wulf and Elizabeth Ziegler contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Maggie Craker supported the offense with 45 assists. Defensively, WIU achieved 11 blocks and Keyana Cruse led with 19 digs.

The first set saw Tennessee Tech taking an early lead at 12-7. WIU responded with a series of plays, tying the score multiple times but eventually lost the set 26-24. In the second set, WIU trailed for most of the game but rallied to win 26-24 after crucial plays by Julianna Schmidt and Keyana Cruse.

Tennessee Tech controlled the third set, maintaining their advantage throughout and winning it by a score of 25-18. The fourth set began with WIU taking an early lead due to Elizabeth Ziegler's consecutive kills and they secured this set with a score of 25-21 after maintaining their momentum.

In the decisive fifth set, Tennessee Tech established dominance early on with an 8-2 run and claimed victory by finishing at 15-7.

Looking ahead, WIU will host Eastern Illinois next week at Western Hall. Matches are scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 4 p.m.
