WIU volleyball team defeated by UIC in final game of Leatherneck Classic

The WIU Volleyball team faced a defeat in their final game of the Hampton Inn Leatherneck Classic, losing 3-1 against UIC. Brittany Wulf led the team's offense with a game-high 14 kills, while Keyana Cruse and Karli Wenzel contributed defensively with 15 digs each.

In the first set, WIU showed strong performance with multiple runs leading to a 25-14 victory. Notable moments included back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Ziegler and Brittany Wulf, followed by an ace from Karli Wenzel that pushed the lead to 10-5. Later, another sequence of back-to-back kills by Ziegler and Wulf extended the lead to 22-13.

During the second set, WIU trailed at 19-13 but managed to tie it at 21-21 thanks to a kill by Brittany Wulf and an ace from Karlie Lane. The Leathernecks took a brief lead after a Grace Kremer kill made it 24-22. However, UIC responded with a 4-0 run to win the set 26-24. In both the third and fourth sets, WIU attempted comebacks but ultimately fell short as UIC secured victories with scores of 25-18 and 25-20.

Looking ahead, the Leathernecks will participate in the North Dakota Classic on September 13 and 14 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. They are scheduled to play against Belmont and North Dakota on September 13 at noon and again at 6 PM. On September 14, they will face Belmont once more at 10 AM.
