The Western Illinois men's and women's cross country teams are set to begin their season by hosting the Western Illinois Alumni Cross Country Invitational. The event will take place at Spring Lake Park, starting with the women's race at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Last year, the Leatherneck women claimed victory in this event, while the men secured second place behind Bradley.

Participating teams include Western Illinois, Bradley, Carl Sandburg, Northern Illinois, and Sauk Valley.

The Western Illinois women's team is returning most of its members from last year but will need to fill the gap left by top runner Paulina Wuestefeld. Returning athletes Aylana Cezar, Maleigha Huston, Kayden Gilmore, Faith Procopio, Madison Trevena, and Kristina Petrou bring significant experience to the squad. With eight new additions to the roster, competition within the team is expected to be intense.

On the men's side, returning runners Logan Lommel, Caleb Ware, Max Lupo, Robert Perry, and Isaiah Moorman provide a solid foundation of experience. Similar to the women's team, newcomers are anticipated to challenge veteran runners for spots on this year's team.

Following this meet on Friday, both teams will have a week off before competing in Normal, Illinois at the Redbird Invite hosted by Illinois State on September 15.
