Western Illinois University athlete Aliyah Adams has been recognized for her outstanding performance in the indoor track and field season. She was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following her achievements at the Jimmy Grant Invitational.
During the event, Adams broke two longstanding records for Western Illinois. In the 60-meter hurdles, she surpassed Penny Sellers' 40-year-old record by completing the race in 8.64 seconds. Additionally, she set a new record in the long jump with a distance of 6.1 meters, winning that event.
Adams also secured second place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.23 meters at the same invitational.
The Western Illinois Leathernecks will take a break for the holidays and resume competition on January 20.
