Her record-setting cross country season may have concluded, but Western Illinois' Paulina Wuestefeld continues to receive accolades. After establishing a school record in the 6K this fall, Wuestefeld has been recognized for her academic achievements by being named to the Summit League All-Academic All-Conference team.
Wuestefeld, hailing from Duderstadt, Germany, is among five women selected for this honor. She maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA and is pursuing a major in Psychology.
"Paulina is an excellent example of what it means to be a successful student-athlete at Western Illinois University," stated Trey Brokaw, Western Illinois cross country coach. "Besides breaking our school record in cross country this fall, Paulina is also finishing her graduate thesis on dementia caregivers in WIU's General Experimental Psychology program. She's hopeful to be accepted into a Developmental Psychology or Human Development doctoral program next fall."
Eligibility for the Academic All-League team requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale, completion of at least one full academic year at the current institution, and participation in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are submitted by sports information directors from institutions within the league that sponsor cross country programs. Voting involves both these directors and facility athletic representatives (FARs). The team comprises the five student-athletes with the highest vote counts, with ties included.
