WIU Women's golf team takes second place at home intercollegiate

The WIU Women's golf team recently hosted the WIU Intercollegiate tournament, finishing in second place with a total score of 926 (+74). Two team members, Olivia Kerr and Makayla Mussatto, secured top-10 finishes. Kerr, who previously achieved a top-20 finish at the Butler Don Benbow Spring Invitational, maintained consistent performance throughout the tournament.

Kerr started her first round strong by making pars on eight out of nine holes on the front nine. Despite an early bogey and double-bogey on the back nine, she managed to par six of the last seven holes, concluding with a score of 76 (+5). In her second round, Kerr again parred six holes on the front nine and seven on the back nine, replicating her initial score of 76 (+5). During her final round, she achieved two birdies on holes two and seven and matched her previous rounds' scores with another 76 (+5).

Mussatto closely followed Kerr's performance. She completed her first round with pars on six front-nine holes and added another six pars in the back nine for a score of 77 (+6). Her second-round performance improved slightly as she parred seven front-nine holes and began the back nine with a birdie to finish at 76 (+5). In her third round, Mussatto recorded one more birdie on hole six alongside ten pars, closing with a score of 77 (+6).

Other notable performances included Abby Hunter's five birdies during the tournament and Mia Scrimgeour securing a top-15 finish. Natalie Hooper and Hannah Butler each made one birdie. All team members finished within the top 25.

The team's next event is scheduled for April 8-9 in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the Stampede at the Creek.

Final individual scores were: Olivia Kerr - T7 (+15), Makayla Mussatto - T9 (+17), Mia Scrimgeour - 14th place (+20), Natalie Hooper - T21 (+27), Abby Hunter - T21 (+27), Hannah Butler* - 35th place (+42).
