Southern Indiana defeats Western Illinois in soccer season finale

Western Illinois University Women's Soccer team faced Southern Indiana in their final regular season match. The game, held in Evansville, Indiana, saw Southern Indiana score early in the sixth minute and maintain their lead throughout.

Western Illinois needed a win, an SIUE loss, and a draw between UT Martin and Southeast Missouri to qualify for the OVC Tournament. However, their hopes were dashed as they fell behind early. A one-all draw between SIUE and Morehead State officially eliminated the Leathernecks from tournament contention.

In the second half, Southern Indiana scored twice more. Western Illinois was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities during the match. They lost the shot battle 21-9 with only one shot on goal—a free kick by Alanna Pennington from about 40 yards out. The Leathernecks also lost the corner battle 8-7 and committed six fouls compared to USI's five.

Western Illinois concluded their season with a record of 1-14-1 overall and 1-7-1 in conference play, placing them tenth in the OVC standings.
