A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Waverly City Council in Illinois regarding detailed information about its council members on October 15, 2024.
As part of our commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request specifically asked for a list of all council members with the following details: their names, titles, years they were appointed, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates.
As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
