Western Illinois University faced a challenging game at Hanson Field, losing to Tennessee State with a final score of 45-20. The match unfolded under rainy conditions, with TSU establishing an early lead through a 15-yard rushing touchdown. They further extended their advantage with another 15-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

In response, Western Illinois scored a field goal in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 14-3. However, Tennessee State quickly countered with a 37-yard touchdown pass and followed up with a one-yard rushing touchdown after a short WIU drive, bringing the score to 28-3.

Western Illinois managed to score before halftime as Nathan Lamb connected with Cameren Smith on a 14-yard touchdown pass. Antonio Chadha added a 44-yard field goal just before the break, closing the first half at 28-13.

The third quarter saw TSU scoring again with a 24-yard touchdown pass, which remained the only points for that period. In the fourth quarter, Lamb's six-yard rushing touchdown brought WIU closer at 35-20. However, Tennessee State responded promptly with a field goal and sealed their victory with a late-game 39-yard rushing touchdown.

Nathan Lamb ended the game with 266 passing yards on 24 completions and contributed significantly on the ground with 74 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Demari Davis led WIU's receivers with 62 yards while Ryan Crandall made his mark defensively by recording 16 tackles, including three for loss and one sack.

Next week, Western Illinois will travel to face SEMO in an away game scheduled for kickoff at 1 p.m.
