The Western Illinois University football team recently participated in a community service event, contributing to the construction of beds for children in need. Eighty members of the team collaborated with Campus Students for Christ during the "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" event, successfully building 35 beds.

Brandon Kreczmer, associate head coach, highlighted the importance of this initiative as part of the team's commitment to community service. "The Sleep in Heavenly Peace Build was a huge success," Kreczmer stated. "The players and coaches had a fun time giving back to the community and helping people in need."

Kreczmer emphasized that engaging with the community is a regular activity for the team. "We try to do some type of community every week or every other week. We are willing to do anything to help out in the community," he added.

Although they managed to build 35 beds, Kreczmer noted that they could have produced more if not for running out of materials. He praised everyone involved for their efforts, from sanding and drilling to branding the beds. "We always preach to our players to be thankful for the opportunity we have and to be able to help people in need," he said.

As their football season comes to an end, WIU will play its final game against Gardner-Webb University at Hanson Field on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
