Western Illinois ends football season with home win over Gardner-Webb

Western Illinois University concluded its 2024 football season with a decisive 45-28 win against Gardner-Webb at Hanson Field. The team's success was driven by strong performances from players Matthew Henry and Peyton Bradford, contributing to a total of 511 yards gained.

Quarterback Nathan Lamb was instrumental in the victory, achieving 352 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown. Matthew Henry made significant contributions with six receptions totaling 210 yards and two touchdowns, including a notable 46-yard score. This performance places him third all-time for receiving yards in a single season at Western Illinois, ending the year with 1,179 yards. Eli Aragon also stood out with eight catches for 113 yards and one touchdown.

The running game saw Torrance Farmer Jr. add to the scoreboard with two touchdowns and 58 rushing yards, maintaining offensive balance for the Leathernecks.

Defensively, Western Illinois excelled by recording three sacks and forcing three turnovers. Linebacker Jonathan Williams led defensively with twelve tackles, four of which were for loss. Peyton Bradford contributed significantly on defense as well with three sacks and a forced fumble.

In the fourth quarter, Western Illinois scored seventeen unanswered points through touchdowns by Eli Aragon and Torrance Farmer Jr., sealing their victory. The team ended their season at 4-8.
