The inauguration of the Illinois House of Representatives for the 104th General Assembly was held at the University of Illinois-Springfield. State Representative Norine Hammond, a Republican from Macomb, was sworn in to represent the 94th District in western Illinois.

"I want to thank the voters of the 94th District for re-electing me to represent their interests at the State Capitol," Rep. Hammond stated. "I am forever grateful for the trust placed in me by western Illinois families. It’s my honor to serve as your State Representative and I look forward to tackling the difficult challenges ahead."

During this first session, representatives voted on leadership positions within the chamber. The Democratic supermajority re-elected Emanuel Chris Welch from Hillside as Speaker of the House. Meanwhile, Tony McCombie, a Republican from Savanna, was re-elected as House Minority Leader.

Leader McCombie appointed Norine Hammond again as Deputy Republican Leader for this General Assembly session.

"Norine Hammond has been my friend and trusted partner during our time together in the Illinois House of Representatives," said Leader McCombie. "Her exemplary leadership, dedicated service, and commonsense approach to governing makes her an outstanding choice for my Leadership team. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Norine to improve our economy, protect Illinois families, and put an end to the culture of corruption in Springfield."

Rep. Hammond expressed gratitude towards Leader McCombie for her continued support.

"Tony and I have much in common, from our border districts along the Mississippi River to our time as seatmates on the floor of the House. We share the same hopes and concerns for our great state and for families across Illinois. I’m proud to serve with my dear friend, Tony McCombie, the first female legislative leader of the Illinois House."

Hammond represents thirteen counties within west-central Illinois including Adams, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Mercer, Peoria, Rock Island, Schuyler, Tazewell and Warren.
