Western Illinois University has announced the appointment of Landon Fox as the new Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach for its football program. Head Coach Joe Davis expressed enthusiasm about Fox joining the team, highlighting his extensive experience and leadership skills.

"We are excited to welcome Landon, Rhonda, Riley and Logan to the WIU football family," said Davis. "Coach Fox has a tremendous track record leading productive defenses at the FCS level. More importantly, Coach Fox is a transformational leader that will do everything he can to build strong relationships with our players and create a life-changing experience for Leatherneck student-athletes."

Fox previously served as head coach at Valparaiso University for five seasons. Under his leadership, Valpo achieved 14 Pioneer Football League victories over four years, marking a historic achievement for the program. In his first season with Valpo, the team ranked in the top five in scoring defense within the PFL for the first time since 2004.

During his tenure at Valpo, Fox's defense consistently performed well in various league rankings. In 2023, they were among the top teams in scoring defense and total defense within the PFL. His team's special teams also excelled in several categories.

In 2022, Fox's defensive unit led nationally in fourth-down defense and was prominent in red-zone defense statistics. The team maintained strong performances across multiple defensive categories during his time there.

Before his role at Valpo, Fox spent 11 years as defensive coordinator and secondary coach at the University of Dayton under Head Coach Rick Chamberlin. During this period, Dayton achieved significant success with three PFL championships and a playoff appearance.
