The Western Illinois Men's Basketball team faced a setback in their recent game against Morehead State, ending with a 51–47 loss. The match took place on Thursday night as part of the Ohio Valley Conference. With this defeat, WIU's overall record now stands at 8–10 and 2–5 in conference play.
In the first half, WIU led with a score of 26–21, thanks to strong defensive efforts. Marko Maletic contributed significantly with 10 points and six rebounds. Sean Smith added 11 points and made a crucial three-pointer that helped the Leathernecks lead at halftime. However, offensive struggles marked the second half for WIU, as they scored only 21 points and had difficulties from beyond the arc.
Kayden Carter was effective inside with eight points and five rebounds, while Trey Deveaux came off the bench to add seven points and five boards. Despite forcing six turnovers and making six steals, WIU could not overcome Morehead State's dominance in the paint, where they were outscored 26–20.
The Leathernecks aim to recover from this loss when they face Southern Indiana on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
