Western Illinois athletes shine at Bob Teel Invite with record-breaking performances

The Western Illinois University Track and Field team showcased a strong performance at the Bob Teel Invite in Columbia, Missouri. The team achieved several notable results, adding new entries to the school's record books.

Edward Clark excelled in the 200m race with a time of 21.93 seconds, securing his place as the third fastest in school history. He also finished third overall at the invitational and placed fourth in the 60m race.

In women's events, Lydia Bennett secured third place in the 1000m with a time of 3:04.64.

The men's 1000m race saw two podium finishes for Western Illinois. Sean Hudspath claimed first place with a time of 2:30.68, making him seventh all-time in program history. Mohammed Baghati followed closely behind, earning second place with a time of 2:33.40. Richard Brown won the 800m race with a photo finish time of 1:52.30.

In field events, Toriano Tate took first place in the long jump with a leap of 7.29 meters, marking his name in the school record book. Cage Davidson achieved a season-best jump of 6.84 meters, finishing in the top ten.

Bria Armstrong and Kelsey Hutchins both earned top ten finishes in the triple jump with distances of 11.11 meters and 10.85 meters respectively.

Dana Surwillo, Emma Ponx, and Colleen Johnson placed within the top ten in pole vaulting events; Johnson reached a height of 3.45 meters while Surwillo and Ponx cleared heights of 3.75 meters each.

The Leathernecks are set to compete next at Iowa State University for the Iowa State Classic on February 8.
