Western Illinois women's tennis team sweeps opening match against Jaguars

The Western Illinois women's tennis team began their spring season with a strong performance in Indianapolis, securing a 7-0 victory against the Jaguars.

In singles matches, Chloé Routier recovered from losing her first set 6-2 to win the following two sets 1-6 and 2-6. Paige Grice also came back after dropping her initial set 6-3, ultimately winning the next two sets 2-6 and 5-7. Lara Souza had a close match, ending the first set at 4-6 and taking the second set with a tiebreaker at 6-7. Richardlyn Francois battled through three sets, losing the first 7-5 but winning the subsequent sets 4-6 and finishing decisively at 6-10.

Mana Fawcett won her match efficiently, taking both sets with scores of 0-6 and 2-6. Nour Gueblaoui concluded an impressive singles run by winning her match in straight sets with scores of 0-6 and 3-6.

In doubles play, Francois and Souza emerged victorious with a score of 4-6. The duo of Grice and Fawcett secured their match, ensuring WIU's success in doubles competition. The pair of Routier and Gueblaoui did not complete their match as WIU had already clinched the doubles point.

Western Illinois will face The Illinois State Redbirds in their next match scheduled for tomorrow.
