Leatherneck Track & Field excels at Iowa State Classic

The Leatherneck Track and Field team showcased strong performances at the Iowa State Classic, securing several podium finishes. Dana Surwillo and Emma Ponx excelled in the High Jump event, claiming the top two positions. Ponx secured first place with a vault of 3.75 meters, while Surwillo closely followed in second place with a vault of 3.65 meters.

Sophomore Matthew Thomas achieved second place in the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.25 meters. Cage Davidson continued his success in the long jump, finishing third overall with a leap of 6.81 meters. Rayvon Wright also performed well, earning a top-10 spot with a jump of 6.51 meters.

Wright further demonstrated his abilities by finishing third in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters, closely followed by freshman Garrison Murray, who secured fourth place with an identical jump.

In track events, Robert Perry finished eighth overall in the men's 5000-meter race with a time of 15:05.41. Two athletes made it into the school record books during the 3000-meter race: Logan Beckmier recorded a personal best time of 8:34.06 on the men's side, placing him seventh all-time in school history; Maddie Trevena also achieved a personal best on the women's side with a time of 10:03.92, ranking her fourth all-time.

In the field events' concluding race, Edward Clark finished tenth overall in the 200-meter race with a time of 22.36 seconds, while Lucas Burmeister placed twelfth with a time of 22.50 seconds.

The Leathernecks will next compete at Washburn University for the Ichabod Invitational on February 14 and 15.
