Western Illinois Men's Basketball team secured their second consecutive win with a 72-67 victory over Morehead State at Western Hall. The game on Saturday afternoon featured standout performances from Ryan Myers, Trey Deveaux, and Marko Maletic.
Ryan Myers led the scoring for Western Illinois with a career-high 28 points, making nine of his seventeen attempts and sinking four three-pointers. His free throw performance, converting six out of eight, was instrumental in maintaining the team's momentum as they overcame a halftime deficit.
Trey Deveaux contributed significantly with a double-double performance, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. His perfect shooting from beyond the arc, going four-for-four, helped limit Morehead State's opportunities for second-chance points.
Marko Maletic added 14 points to the scoreboard, showcasing his ability to score from various positions on the court. Maletic's two three-pointers in this game brought his season total to 87, setting a new program record for most three-pointers made in a single season. This surpasses the previous record of 86 set by Ceola Clark III during the 2011-2012 season.
The Leathernecks trailed by three points at halftime but rallied with a strong second-half performance, scoring 42 points to take control of the game. Despite efforts from Anouar Mellouk and Kenny White Jr., who scored 13 and 12 points respectively for Morehead State, Western Illinois' offensive push proved too much for their opponents.
Western Illinois achieved an efficient shooting percentage of 46% from the field and successfully made ten three-pointers throughout the game. The trio of Myers, Deveaux, and Maletic were responsible for all ten successful long-range shots. The team also capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line by making sixteen out of twenty-three attempts.
This victory gives Western Illinois momentum as they head into their upcoming games against SEMO and Little Rock next week.
