Western Illinois faces consecutive shutouts at Velvet Milkman Classic

Western Illinois faced a challenging day at the Velvet Milkman Classic in Murray, Kentucky, on February 24, 2025. The team suffered two shutout losses against Butler and Murray State.

In their first game of the day, Western Illinois was unable to register a hit in a 3-0 defeat to Butler. Despite a solid defensive performance with no errors and only five hits allowed, they struggled offensively. Butler's pitching staff held Western Illinois hitless, allowing just three walks while striking out three times. Butler secured their victory by scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the fourth.

Later that day, Western Illinois played against Murray State and experienced another tough loss, falling 9-0 in just five innings. The Racers took an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Western Illinois managed only one hit and committed one error during this game. Their pitchers surrendered nine hits and five walks while allowing seven earned runs.

Overall, across both games, Western Illinois failed to score any runs and achieved only one hit over 12 innings of play. Their record now stands at 3-9 for the season.
