Western Illinois faced challenges during their doubleheader in St. Charles, Missouri, on Sunday, losing both games against Valparaiso and Green Bay in tournament play.
In the first game, Western Illinois was defeated by Valparaiso with a score of 4-1. Despite a strong pitching effort from Lillie Wools and her team, Valparaiso's offense was consistent, scoring in four different innings. Western Illinois managed only five hits throughout the game, with Ruby Tarr contributing the only extra-base hit. Valparaiso capitalized on key scoring opportunities to secure their victory.
The second game saw Western Illinois facing Green Bay and suffering a 10-1 loss within five innings. Green Bay's offense was aggressive from the start, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding six more in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach for Western Illinois. The Leathernecks struggled offensively, managing just two hits with Maria Luna driving in their sole run.
Currently holding a season record of 5-12, Western Illinois aims to recover in their upcoming matches as they continue their early-season tournament schedule.
