WIU tennis falls short against South Carolina State

The Western Illinois University (WIU) tennis team faced a challenging match against South Carolina State University in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Leathernecks were unable to secure a victory, losing the doubles matches and several singles matches.

In doubles play, the pair of Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier competed at the No. 1 position but lost with a score of 1-6. Similarly, Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett faced defeat at No. 2 with the same scoreline. Anna Trush and Richardlyne Francois's match was left unfinished at 1-5, resulting in South Carolina State securing the opening point.

During singles competition, Grice played at No. 2 but lost 2-6, 1-6. Fawcett competed at No. 3 but also fell short with scores of 2-6, 2-6. Trush returned from injury to play at No. 6 but was defeated with scores of 2-6 and 1-6, leading to a final score of SC State winning 0-4.

Routier's match at No. 1 remained unfinished with scores standing at 4-6, 2-3 when play concluded. Francois took the first set in her match at No. 4 with a score of 6-3 before leaving it unfinished in the second set at 2-1. Gueblaoui played at No. 5 and left her match incomplete after dropping the first set and reaching a tie in the second set.

Looking ahead, WIU Tennis will continue their road games against George Mason on Thursday, March 13th and will begin conference play against Southern Indiana on Saturday, March 15th.
