WIU tennis team triumphs over George Mason University at Spring Fest

The Western Illinois University (WIU) tennis team secured a victory against George Mason University at the Spring Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with an overall score of 5-2.

In doubles play, WIU started strong by winning two matches. The No. 1 pair, Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier, won their match 6-4. Richardlyne Francois and Mana Fawcett dominated at No. 2 with a score of 6-0. However, Paige Grice and Anna Trush faced a setback at No. 3, losing 5-7. Winning two out of three doubles matches gave WIU the first point.

In singles play, Routier continued her performance at No. 1 with a victory of 6-4, 6-0. Grice excelled at No. 2, winning in straight sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Francois clinched her match at No. 3 after winning the first set 6-3 and narrowly taking the second set 7-5. Fawcett also secured a win at No. 4 with scores of 6-2 and 6-3.

Gueblaoui's match was a close contest; she won the first set but lost the second and ultimately dropped the tiebreaker. Trush returned from injury but lost her match with scores of 3-6, 3-6.

The Leathernecks will next travel to Southern Indiana on March 15 to face the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.
