Western Illinois University faced a challenging game against Drake University, resulting in a 14-2 loss at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium on March 25, 2025. The Leathernecks struggled to contain Drake's offense, which took advantage of several scoring opportunities throughout the match.

Drake established control early by scoring two runs in the first inning and followed with a five-run rally in the third. Western Illinois responded in the fourth inning with two runs, courtesy of a two-run homer by Sophia Sanchez. Despite this effort, Drake continued to dominate, adding one run in the fifth and six more in the sixth inning.

The Leathernecks recorded six hits during the game but failed to create sustained rallies. Rylee Boone contributed two hits from the top of the lineup. Although Sanchez's home run was a highlight for Western Illinois, it was insufficient against Drake's persistent offensive pressure.

Starting pitcher Libby Spaulding pitched three innings, allowing five earned runs before passing duties to the bullpen. The relief staff also encountered difficulties, giving up a total of 14 runs on 12 hits. Walks and defensive errors compounded Western Illinois' challenges, enabling Drake to capitalize fully.

Defensively, Western Illinois committed one error and allowed three stolen bases, complicating their efforts to keep the game competitive. Despite some strong plays on defense, they were unable to slow down Drake's offense, which effectively used both power hitting and small-ball strategies.

Following this defeat, Western Illinois' record falls to 6-22 for the season. They will seek improvement as they prepare for upcoming games against UT Martin.
