Western Illinois golf teams finish strong at home tournament

The Western Illinois University's Men's and Women's Golf teams concluded their home tournament for the spring season on Saturday in Silvis, Illinois. The Men's team secured second place with a score of 895 (+43), while the Women's team finished third, shooting 937 (+85).

Olivia Kerr, a standout performer, shot a 77 (+6) in the first round and improved with a 73 (+2) in the second round and a 72 (+1) in the third. Kerr ended the tournament in second place individually with a total score of 222 (+9), one stroke behind the leader. She achieved five birdies in round two and four in the final round. "She would have five birdies in round two, including four birdies on the back nine, and four birdies in round three, two on the front nine and two on the back nine." Mia Scrimgeour also finished in the top 10, securing ninth place with a score of 232 (+19).

The remaining Women's scores included Abby Hunter (+26), Olivia McCrystal (+37), and Sophia Thorne (+42). The Women's team will compete next in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the Stampede at the Creek hosted by Omaha.

In the Men's division, Owen Howe and Mateo Rascon led the Leathernecks by finishing in the top 10. Howe came in fourth with a score of 218 (+5) and Rascon tied for seventh with a score of 220 (+7). "Howe finished in fourth place shooting a 218 (+5). He would have a good second and third round as he shot a 72 (+1) in round two and a 70 (-1) in round three." Rascon's standout performance was in the second round where he shot a 71 (E).

Additional Men's scores included Baptiste Labyerie (+11), Nathan Tillman (+20), and Luke Lofgren (+44). The Men's team will participate in the Arkansas State Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on April 14th.
