The Western Illinois University (WIU) tennis team secured a victory against the Eastern Illinois Panthers, advancing their conference record to 3-1.
In doubles play, WIU's pair, Nour Gueblaoui and Richardlyne Francois, achieved a decisive 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot. The match at No. 2 with Chloé Routier and Mana Fawcett remained unfinished due to clinch. The third doubles match ended in a forfeit by Eastern Illinois, awarding WIU the first point.
During singles play, Fawcett at No. 6 earned a point through forfeit. Paige Grice, playing at No. 3, won her match after her opponent retired due to injury. At No. 1, Francois excelled again, winning both sets 6-1, securing the match for WIU. Gueblaoui, at No. 5, dominated her match with a 6-0 and 6-2 win.
Lara Souza, competing at No. 4, faced defeat, losing both sets 4-6, 0-6. The day's final match saw Routier engage in a three-set battle, eventually losing with scores of 1-6, 7-5, and a 7-10 tiebreaker, concluding the competition with WIU on top with an overall score of 5-2.
The WIU team will next play against the Lindenwood Lions in St. Charles on April 7.
