Abby Hunter shines as WIU Women's Golf achieves fourth place at Stampede tournament

Western Illinois University Women's Golf team concluded its final tournament before the OVC Conference Championships. At the Stampede at the Creek Tournament, the team finished fourth with a team score of 933 (+69).

Abby Hunter led the effort for WIU, tying for third overall. Hunter began the final round in first place with a two-stroke lead (+4). She achieved her first career top-five finish, ending with a three-round total of 227 (+11). Her best performance was in the opening round, shooting a 73 (+1). Hunter recorded three birdies in this round, scoring a 34 (-2) on the front nine. She added another birdie on hole 18, completing the back nine with a 39 (+3). Hunter's second round produced a 75 (+3), with a single birdie on hole 11. She completed the tournament with a 79 (+7) in the final round.

Olivia Kerr secured her second consecutive top-10 finish, placing ninth. She excelled in round two, shooting a 71 (-1) and making five birdies, three of which were on the front nine.

Other contributors for the Leathernecks included Sophia Thorne (+21), Mia Scrimgeour (+23), Olivia McCrystal (+27), and Gabriela Galindo Rubio (+43).

The team will now prepare for the OVC Conference Championships from April 13 to April 15 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

For scores, Abby Hunter tied for third with +11, Olivia Kerr finished ninth at +17, Sophia Thorne tied for 16th with +21, Mia Scrimgeour tied for 23rd at +23, Olivia McCrystal placed 31st at +27, and Gabriela Galindo Rubio tied for 48th with +43.
