1 new registered sex offender living in Calhoun County in Q1

There was one new registered sex offender living in Calhoun County as of the first quarter of 2025, compared to the previous quarter, according to the Illinois Police Sex Offender Registry.

The Registry showed that, in total, three sexual offenders were living in Calhoun County, compared to two the quarter before.

Sexual predators and child murderers remain on the registry for the rest of their lives. Sexually violent people are no longer listed 10 years after their conviction.

The offender moving into Calhoun County may have been recently convicted or moved from other cities in the US.

A SafeHome.org study found that the number of registered sex offenders in the U.S. rose to more than 795,000 as of August 2024, an increase of about 8,000 from 2023.

Illinois has the fifth-highest number of registered sex offenders in the country, with over 34,000 individuals on the registry, and ranks 23rd in number of offenders per 100,000 residents.
