The Western Illinois pole vault team demonstrated impressive performances at the Normal Invite in Bloomington, Illinois. These achievements impacted the program's record books and resulted in several podium finishes.
Arnie Grunert led the effort with noteworthy results. He clinched first place and broke his own school record with a vault of 5.53 meters. This mark ranks third nationally in the NCAA this season.
In the women's competition, Dana Surwillo secured first place with a vault of 3.75 meters, tying her for third in Western Illinois history. Emma Ponx followed closely with a vault of 3.60 meters, earning second place. Colleen Johnson and Angel Stanley also performed well, finishing in seventh and eighth places with matching vaults of 3.30 meters.
The Leathernecks' next competition is at the University of Kansas for the Kansas Relays, starting Thursday, April 17.
