Western Illinois shortstop Payton Brown has garnered the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week accolade for the second time this season after showcasing remarkable skills both offensively and defensively during a four-game series.

During the week, Brown achieved a batting average of .545, securing 6 runs and driving in 6 RBIs. Her standout performance came on April 7 against Tennessee State, where she went 3-for-3 with three home runs, including a grand slam. This achievement tied the Western Illinois softball program record for the most home runs in a single game.

Brown's notable statistics for the week included 3 home runs, a double, 5 walks, and a stolen base. Her capability to get on base and execute in critical moments was evident, and defensively, she was flawless, recording several assists without errors.

This recognition emphasizes Brown's ongoing influence and leadership on the field, as her performance remains crucial to the team’s performance during the OVC competition.

Western Illinois is scheduled to play against the Kansas City Roos on April 16 at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium in Macomb, Illinois.
