Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Springfield to address concerns regarding sanctuary policies in Illinois. These policies, according to Noem, have led to increased violence, including serious crimes such as rape and murder, while preventing illegal immigrants from facing legal consequences.

State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer of Murrayville is advocating for the repeal of the Illinois TRUST Act through legislation known as HB 1317. This act currently restricts local law enforcement from cooperating with federal authorities on immigration matters. Davidsmeyer's proposed bill aims to terminate Illinois' sanctuary state policy.

In response to Secretary Noem's visit, Representative Davidsmeyer expressed gratitude towards both Secretary Noem and former President Trump for their efforts in addressing illegal immigration and border security. He criticized the current administration's policies under President Biden, attributing a rise in crime and budgetary strains in Illinois to these policies.

Davidsmeyer further criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker’s stance on sanctuary policies, stating: “Governor Pritzker’s failed sanctuary state policy has cost Illinois taxpayers billions of dollars and made our communities less safe.”

He emphasized the need for collaboration with federal authorities to manage the presence of over half-a-million illegal immigrants in the state. Davidsmeyer urged Governor Pritzker to prioritize the safety of Illinois residents over political ambitions.
