Western Illinois University has announced Charlton Zimmerman as the new Director of Golf for the 2025-2026 school year. Paul A. Bubb, Director of Athletics at Western Illinois, made the announcement and expressed his confidence in Zimmerman's ability to lead both the men's and women's golf programs.
Zimmerman comes to Western Illinois from the University of Delaware, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach. At Delaware, he was involved in recruitment efforts, travel logistics, academic monitoring, and skill development drills. He also built relationships with alumni and donors.
Prior to his tenure at Delaware, Zimmerman worked as a graduate assistant coach at the University of South Alabama. There, he directed physical conditioning programs that contributed to significant achievements by the Jaguars men's golf team. Before South Alabama, Zimmerman served in various roles including a non-PGA assistant teaching professional at Harbor Point Golf Club and assistant general manager at Bruce Hills Golf Club.
Zimmerman is an alumnus of Roosevelt University where he was a four-time letter winner in golf and served as team captain three times. He holds a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt in sustainability and environmental science and has master's degrees from both Delaware and South Alabama.
Expressing gratitude for his appointment, Zimmerman stated: "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Director of Athletics Paul Bubb, Shelby Borchardt and the search committee for their thorough and thoughtful search process." He emphasized his commitment to developing golfers on and off the course at Western Illinois.
Zimmerman also thanked his colleagues at Delaware: "I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my colleagues at the University of Delaware, particularly Head Coach Patty and Brendon Post, and Jackie Mullens for their mentorship and support."
