Arnie Grunert concluded his junior season with a 20th place finish at the NCAA National Championships held in Eugene, Oregon. The athlete began the event by successfully clearing 5.18 meters on his first attempt but was unable to clear 5.32 meters after three attempts.
Throughout his junior year, Grunert achieved significant milestones. He finished third nationally among pole vaulters with a vault of 5.65 meters at the Gary Wieneke Memorial meet, setting a new record for Western Illinois University.
Grunert's achievements also include becoming the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Pole Vault Champion by clearing 5.20 meters. This victory was followed by his performance at the NCAA Regionals in College Station, Texas, where he cleared 5.42 meters and secured second place, qualifying him for the National Championships for the second consecutive outdoor season.
His participation in the Nationals earned him an Honorable Mention All-American title for the second year running.
