Western Illinois University’s women’s soccer team lost 3-0 to Indiana State on Sunday at Memorial Stadium. The match marked the second road game of the week for the Leathernecks.
Indiana State took control early, scoring in the fourth minute and again less than five minutes later. The Sycamores added a third goal late in the first half, entering halftime with a 3-0 lead.
After halftime, Western Illinois improved defensively, limiting Indiana State to nine shots in the second half after facing 18 shots before the break. Goalkeeper Ariel Bernard recorded 10 saves during the match, including seven in the opening half.
On offense, Western Illinois managed three shots. Aoife Boulter registered the only shot on goal for her team in the 81st minute. Ali Matthews and Ava Bell also contributed one shot each.
The loss moves Western Illinois to a season record of 1-4-0. The team continues its road schedule Thursday, September 4th, against Green Bay.
