Western Illinois women's soccer falls to Lindenwood in close home match

Western Illinois University's women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Lindenwood on Sunday at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. The only goal of the match came in the 31st minute, scored by Lindenwood's Maddy Vasiloff, and remained the difference through the end of regulation.

Western Illinois goalkeeper Ariel Bernard made five saves while facing a total of 19 shots from Lindenwood. On offense, Western Illinois managed three shots, with Kayla Turner and Tyra Sterling each attempting a shot. Sterling had the team's only shot on goal.

In the second half, Western Illinois limited Lindenwood's chances despite the visitors earning six corner kicks. Samantha Claesson and Daniela Gularte played the entire match for Western Illinois, contributing to the team's defense in midfield and along the back line.

After this result, Western Illinois stands at 1-15-0 overall and 0-6-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The team will play its next match at Little Rock.
